    How To Play No-Limit Hold’em

There are many different forms of poker, here at pokerhut365 we play No Limit Texas Hold’em. No limit Texas Hold’em is the most popular form of the game in the world. It is known as “The Cadillac of Poker”

The aim of poker is to win chips from your opponents, which, at the end of the game are converted into money/winnings.

Each poker hand takes its place on the ”poker hand ranking chart”. The poker hand ranking chart determines what hand beats what. See section (5)

Each player has a total of 7 cards which they can combine to make the best 5 card poker hand. At the end of each game cards are turned over and the player with the best poker hand wins the pot of chips.

    (1) Start

Poker starts with all players being dealt 2 cards face down these are called the “hole” cards. The player left of the dealer pays half the minimum bet before they look at their cards this is called the “Small Blind“. The player left of the Small Blind pays the minimum bet before they look at their cards this is called the Big Blind position. All players can look at their own hole cards.

Action begins with the player left of the big blind. He is said to be “under the gun”. This player has 3 choices:

    1. Fold - discard his cards and not pay the minimum or play the hand.
    2. Call - pay enough chips to match the bets.
    3. Bet - put more chips in and raise the amount that other people need to call/match

The action in poker moves clockwise from player to player until all bets have been matched or players have folded.

If no player raises by the time action returns to the big blind then person in the BB position can check. Check means No Bet

    (2) The Flop

One card from the top of the deck is discarded face down. Three cards are then dealt face up in the centre of the table; these cards are collectively known as the “Flop”

Players still active can use the hole cards and the flop cards to make the best 5 card poker hand.

Action begins again left of the dealer and another round of betting follows. The first player left of the dealer has 2 choices:

    1. Check – declare no bet and pass the decision on.
    2. Bet – put any given number of chips into the pot (above the minimum bet), which other players have to call/match to remain in the action.

If a bet is made then no other players can check. Remaining players can fold, call or raise.

    (3) The Turn

Then a discarded card followed by a fourth community card is exposed, called the “turn” card, followed by another betting round of betting.

    (4) The River

Finally a fifth community is dealt, the “river” card, and a last round of betting ensues.

After the final round of betting, players must show their cards, and, using their two hole cards with the five community cards, make the highest 5 card poker hand. (See poker hand rankings below)

    (5) Poker Hand Rankings

Know the order of cards, from low to high 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack (J), Queen (Q), King (K) and Ace (A). The ace (A) can usually double as the lowest card when necessary. There is no ranking between the suits - so for example the king of hearts and the king of spades are equal. Poker ranks are always based on five cards only.
Familiarize yourself with the definitions and values of different hands. The hands are in order of increasing value: One Pair, Two pair, Three of a kind, Straight, Flush, Full house, Four of a kind, Straight flush and Royal flush. A given hand beats all hands listed before it. Now let's study each of them in detail.

    1. High card is when a player's five cards do not form any of the combinations listed below. When comparing two such hands, the one with the better highest card wins. If the highest cards are equal the second cards are compared; if they are equal too the third cards are compared, and so on. So A-J-9-5-3 beats A-10-9-6-4 because the J beats 10.

    2. One pair refers to two cards out of five cards with the same numerical value E.g.: A-A-K-7-6 (or) J-J-8-5-3. If the pairs are equal, compare the highest ranking odd cards from each hand; if these are equal compare the second highest odd card, and if these are equal too compare the lowest odd cards. So A-A-7-6-5 beats A-A-7-3-2 because the 6 beats 3.

    3. Two pair refers to two different pairs of cards and one another card. E.g.: A-A-K-K-5 (or) J-J-10-10-7. If the higher pairs are equal, the lower pairs are compared, so that for example A-A-K-K-5 beats A-A-J-J-3. Finally, if both pairs are the same, the odd cards are compared, so A-A-10-10-5 beats A-A-10-10-4.

    4. Three of a kind refers to three cards of the same numerical value and two other cards. E.g.: A-A-A-3-2 (or) 5-5-5-K-J. If you have to compare two threes of a kind where the sets of three are of equal rank, then the higher of the two remaining cards in each hand are compared, and if those are equal, the lower odd card is compared, so K-K-K-A-10 beats K-K-K-A-9 because 10 beats 9.

    5. Straight refers to five cards in the sequential order of different suits. E.g.: 6-5-4-3-2 (or) Q-J-10-9-8.
5-4-3-2-A is the lowest kind of straight, 5 being the top card. Where 3-2-A-K-Q is invalid since cards cannot turn the corner.

    6. Flush refers to five cards in non-sequential order of the same suit. E.g.: A-9-7-5-2 (or) K-J-8-6-3. If the highest cards are equal then the second highest card is compared; if those are equal too, then the third highest card, and so on. Here J-9-7-5-2 beats J-9-7-4-3 because 5 beats 4.

    7. Full House refers to three cards of the same numerical value and a pair E.g.: A-A-A-5-5 (or) 6-6-6-2-2. If the threes of a kind were equal, the rank of the pairs would decide the outcome.

    8. Four of a kind refers to four cards of the same numerical value and any other card .E.g.: A-A-A-A-3 (or) 5-5-5-5-7.

    9. Straight Flush refers to five cards of the same sequential order of the same suit. E.g.: 7-6-5-4-3 (or) 9-10-J-Q-K all spades. Remember Q-K-A-2-3 is usually not allowed. Since cards cannot turn corner.

    10. The highest possible Straight Flush is the “ROYAL FLUSH”. 10-J-Q-K-A All cards in same suit.
